Hosni Mubarak: Former Egyptian President dies aged 91

Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak – ousted by the military in 2011 – has died in Cairo at the age of 91. Mubarak spent three decades in office before a popular uprising swept Egypt. He was found guilty of complicity in the killing of protesters during the revolution. That conviction was overturned and was freed in March 2017. His death was confirmed by Egyptian state news on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, the Al-Watan website reported that he died at a military hospital. Mubarak underwent surgery in late January and was photographed with his grandson as he recovered. On Saturday, however, Mubarak's son Alaa said that the former president remained in intensive care. Who was Mubarak? Born in 1928, Mubarak entered the air force as a teenager and went on to play a key role in the 1973 Arab-Israeli war. توفى منذ قليل، الرئيس الأسبق محمد حسنى مبارك، بعد معاناته لسنوات من المرض، حيث بدأ أصدقاء علاء مبارك نجل  الرئيس  الأسبق حسنى مبارك فى نشر برقيات العزاء على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعى والجروبات الخاصة بهم، فى الوقت الذى لا تزال فيه عائلة الرئيس الأسبق ملتزمة بالصمت، ولم تصدر أى بيان رسمى بشأن الوفاة. كانت ترددت أنباء اليوم الثلاثاء عن وفاة الرئيس الأسبق محمد حسنى مبارك، خاصة مع تدهور حالته الصحية مجددا، ودخوله العناية المركزة يذكر أن علاء مبارك كشف عن أن والده، الرئيس الأسبق حسني مبارك، يتواجد داخل غرفة العناية المركزة بأحد المستشفيات، نتيجة إصابته بوعكة صحية . وقال علاء في تدوينة له عبر موقع تويتر: "دعائي الآن أن يشفي المولى عز وجل والدى ويقوم لنا بالسلامة ويرجع بيته يارب ". وأضاف ردا على أحد متابعيه بشأن صحة والده، قائلا: "مازال في العناية.. يارب".

China coronavirus outbreak

Officials in China's Hubei replaced after surge in deaths and criticism of provincial government's handling of outbreak. China on Thursday removed the top political leadership in Hubei, the province at the centre of the escalating  coronavirus  outbreak, shortly after h ealth officials there  reported 242 people died from the virus  on Wednesday - more than twice the number of the previous day and the highest daily toll since the outbreak began. This has raised the death toll to 1,367.  The province and its capital Wuhan where the infection now known as  COVID-19   is thought to have originated in late December also reported more than 14,800 new cases of the infection after adopting new clinical methods to diagnose the virus. The number of infected across China rose to 59,805.
